QUALITIES

Adhesive (su) - A weapon or creature that touches the Adherer becomes stuck fast to the creature's adhesive flesh unless the wielder succeeds at a Dex save. A creature can attempt to pry off a stuck weapon with a Strength check, but doing so provokes an attack of opportunity. Fire can temporarily burn away the adhesive coating. Any attack that inflicts at least 10 points of fire damage, suppresses the adhesive quality for 1d4 rounds. Universal solvent, alchemical solvent, or a similar fluid removes the adhesive quality for 1 hour.

Adhesive Grappling (su) - The creatures's adhesive surface grants it advantage on grapple checks.

Combat Reflexes (ex) - The Adherer gets a number of reactions equal to its dexterity bonus.

ACTIONS
Attacks

Grapple (Reaction)(ex) - As a reaction, the creature can attempt to grapple a foe whenever it is successfully hit with a natural or unarmed strike.

DESCRIPTION

Environment: any temperate or underground

Organization: None

Treasure: standard

This pallid humanoid creature is wrapped in wispy strips of skin, with bits of detritus and a sour stink clinging to it.

An application of boiling water thrown on the adherer deals 1d4 points of damage to it (and to any creature stuck to it). It also reduces both the Reflex save DC and the Strength check DC to 10 for 1 round. An application of fire deals damage to both the adherer and any creature stuck to it and weakens the adhesive (as above) for 1d3 rounds. An application of the universal solvent automatically dissolves the adhesive. An adherer can dissolve its adhesive at will, and the substance breaks down 1 hour after the creature dies. Adherers are strange creatures found in forested areas or underground caverns. They resemble mummies at a distance (DC 20 Knowledge [religion] or Perception check from a distance of 10 feet or more to discern that the creature is not in fact a mummy), but are not in fact related to the aforementioned undead. Adherer's are malign creatures and attack just about any living creature they encounter. An adherer is 6 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds. Adherers attack by ambushing their prey. When lying in wait, an adherer covers its body with leaves, sticks, or debris to better blend with its surroundings. When prey wanders too close, the adherer springs to the attack. They are cowardly creatures, and if spotted before they attack, flee from their potential prey. The adherer attacks by pummeling its foes with its fists. Those successfully attacked are stuck to the adherer.

Adherers look vaguely like embalmed and mummified corpses wrapped in dirty linen, but they are in fact otherworldly beings of an entirely different nature. Transformed by hideous processes on the Ethereal Plane, their bodies are riddled with tiny, adhesive strands that can stick to anything, allowing adherers to bind their enemies' weapons and capture living creatures for their depraved rituals. Though once human, adherers have forgotten all traces of humanity, and now hunt their former kindred with gleeful abandon. Adherers digest food unusually slowly, and as such can feed on a single creature (humans are their favorite meal) for days or even weeks, taking only one or two bites a day and forcing their living captives to endure a hellish, drawn-out death.
