Jotund Troll

CR 15, CE Huge Giant

Senses: Perception 26, All-Around VisionThe creature sees in all directions at once. It cannot be flat-footed unless physically immobilized and is immune to sneak attack or flanking., Low Light Vision, ScentThis special quality allows a creature to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell. Creatures with the scent ability can identify familiar odors just as humans do familiar sights. The creature can detect opponents within 30 feet by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 60 feet; if downwind, it drops to 15 feet. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at twice the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk or troglodyte stench, can be detected at triple normal range. When a creature detects a scent, the exact location of the source is not revealed-only its presence somewhere within range. The creature can take a move action to note the direction of the scent. When the creature is within 5 feet of the source, it pinpoints the source's location. A creature with the scent ability can follow tracks by smell with a perception check instead of using the Track skill.

QUALITIES

Power Attack (ex) - A Jotund Troll may choose to take a penalty to its attack roll (up to -5). For each point of penalty, the Jotund Troll does one extra point of damage. The Jotund Troll must decide to use power attack at the beginning of its turn and it applies to all attack made until the start of its next turn.

Regeneration (ex) - Jotund Trolls heal at a fast rate, gaining 10 hp back each round. They can even regrow lost parts of their body if they are brought together within 1 hour of severing. They cannot be killed while their regeneration is still active. Regeneration can be suppressed by certain types of damage.

Improved Grappling (ex) - This creature is an expert grappler. It can use its level + strength bonus when making a grapple. This grapple check still counts as a skill check.

Improved Critical (ex) - The critical hit range of one of the creature's attacks increases by one point.

Multiple Minds (ex) - A jotund troll has nine different minds that are in constant communication with each other. The resulting jumble of tangled thoughts grants the troll advantage on saving throws against mental effects.

ACTIONS
Attacks

Vital Strike (ex) - As a standard action, the Jotund Troll can make one attack at full bonus that deals additional damage. Roll the damage from the attack twice before adding other damage bonuses. This extra weapon damage is not multiplied on a critical hit but is still added to the total.

Awesome Blow (ex) - The Jotund Troll can strike its targets with a powerful blow using a grapple check instead of a normal attack. If successful, it deals 2d6+12 damage and knocks the target backward 10 feet causing it to fall prone

Cacophonous Roar (su, Sonic, Mental, every 1d4 rounds) - A jotund troll can emit a cacophonous roar from its nine heads. All creatures within a 60-foot spread of the troll must make a INT save or become confused for 1d4 rounds.

DESCRIPTION

Environment: cold hills and mountains

Organization: solitary war party (1 jotund troll plus 2-5 hill giants 3-12 ogres)

Treasure: standard (club, other treasure)

This immense green-skinned brute wields a tree branch for a club and has nine heads, each filled with jutting teeth and tusks.

Jotund trolls are gigantic, nine-headed horrors. Prowling frigid moors and marshes, these rapacious creatures have the same insatiable appetites of common trolls but require much more sustenance because of their excessive size. Jotund trolls stand 30 feet tall and weigh roughly 25,000 pounds. They can live for up to 100 years. The jotund troll's nine heads each have their own brains and senses, but they share, after a fashion, the same mind. Despite this, a jotund troll's heads often argue and bicker, particularly over which head gets to eat. The fact that all nine maws lead to the same shared stomach makes little difference in such culinary disagreements. Jotund trolls spawn with either their own kind or with other trolls. In the latter case, there is only a 5% chance the offspring will be a jotund troll. Apart from brief mating periods, jotund trolls are solitary, although some cull together bands of other giants into devastating war parties that can lay waste to entire regions.
