QUALITIES

Freeze (ex) - When this creature holds still, it appears to be an inanimate object, allowing it to take 20 on stealth checks to hide in plain sight.

Construct Traits (ex) - Constructs cannot heal damage on their own, but often can be repaired via exposure to a certain kind of effect or through the use of the Craft Construct feat. Constructs can also be healed through spells such as make whole. A construct with the fast healing special quality still benefits from that quality. A construct cannot be raised or resurrected.

Fascinating Gaze (su, Mental, Gaze) - Players who look at the Scarecrow to target it or move toward it are automatically subject to its fascinating gaze (within 30 feet). They must make an INT save or become fascinated by the Scarecrow. This save happens each turn before any of the player's other actions. Players can attempt to avoid the gaze by:

ACTIONS
Attacks

Gaze Attack (su) - As a standard action, on its turn, the Scarecrow may also attempt to actively gaze at a target. Doing so automatically triggers a save against its gaze (see description above). If the target is actively attempting to avoid the creature's gaze (indirect action), the gaze attack is considered to be against 3/4 cover. If the target is blind fighting, the gaze attack automatically fails.

It suddenly becomes clear that this is no ordinary pumpkinheaded scarecrow when its eyes glow and it comes to jerky life.

Animated scarecrows look just like mundane scarecrows until they come to life, at which point their eyes and mouths glow with fiery light. Scarecrows are usually created as guardians to warn away trespassers. Each scarecrow is unique, but most stand 5 to 6 feet tall and are made of wood, cloth, and rope. Their stuffing of dried grass or straw makes them vulnerable to fire. A scarecrow cannot speak, and the only sound it makes is the creaking of its wooden frame and the rustling of its straw stuffing when it moves. In combat, a scarecrow uses its fascinating gaze, then chooses the largest foe to pummel with its slams. Although unintelligent, the scarecrow does not ignore other enemies, using its fear touch to cow them until the scarecrow kills its first target. A scarecrow usually does not pursue fleeing foes unless specifically commanded to do so by its creator. Construction Scarecrows are constructed of a variety of materials, but usually include a frame of wood bound by rope or twine, covered in cloth or ragged garments, then stuffed with grass or straw. Some have simple heads made from bags stuffed with straw, with two holes cut for eyes, while others have more elaborate pumpkin or gourd heads carved with grotesque faces. Once the basic body has been constructed, unguents and special powders worth 500 gp are also required. SCARECROW CL 6th; Price 15,500 gp Construction Requirements Craft Construct, command, fear, quest, hypnotic pattern, creator must be caster level 6th; Skill Craft (carpentry), Craft (sculptures), or Profession (farmer) DC 12; Cost 8,000 gp

The animated scarecrow is nearly indistinguishable from a normal scarecrow. Close examination, however, reveals a tiny spark of red light in its eyes (DC 15 Perception check to notice). Each scarecrow is unique in construction and design, but most are about 6 feet tall, constructed of wood and ropes, and stuffed with straw or grass. Scarecrows are most often used as guardians to keep out would-be treasure hunters or trespassers. A scarecrow attempts to fascinate the most powerful opponent it faces using its gaze attack. If it succeeds, it pummels that foe with its fists until the opponent is dead. It does not completely ignore other combatants as it uses its gaze attack to charm them so it can deal with them once its primary foe is dead. Construction Each scarecrow varies in appearance: one may have a stuffed straw head, for example, while another may have a pumpkin for its head. Whatever the differences, scarecrows do have some elements in common: their bodies and all limbs are constructed of wood and bound by ropes; their clothes are almost always dirty and ragged; and most scarecrows are stuffed with straw or grass. Regardless of the materials used, unguents and special powders totaling 500 gp are also required.
