Description: The recipient of this spell can find the shortest, most direct physical route to an identifiable destination, be it the way into or out of a locale. The locale can be outdoors, underground, or even inside a maze spell, but must be on the same plane as the caster. An identifiable location is one that the caster is familiar with or one that is prominent. So, the spell can lead you the location of a famous ruin even if its current location is lost, but it won't lead you to a specific room in a dungeon under the ruin.

Find the path works with respect to locations, not objects or creatures at a locale. So, the spell cannot help you locate the nearest room full of platinum pieces, but it can help you find a specific dungeon famous for its platinum treasure. Likewise, it can't find the lair of a dragon you are tracking (since the lair is just a cave without the creature in it), but if you know the dragon lives in a cave on top of a certain local peak, the spell will get you there.

The spell enables the subject to sense the correct direction that will eventually lead it to its destination, indicating at appropriate times the exact path to follow to take to avoid traps and obstacles. If the shortest path must lead through a trap or obstacle, they will be identified, along with any physical, unskilled actions necessary to avoid them. The spell will identify tripwire that can be stepped over and pitfalls to avoid, but will not reveal how to disarm complex mechanisms or magic traps. If a simple password is required to bypass an obstacle or trap, the caster will learn these as well. If a key or other missing object is needed to bypass an obstacle (like a door), the spell will identify that a key is needed, but won't reveal the location of this missing object.

The spell ends when the destination is reached or the duration expires, whichever comes first. Find the path can be used to remove the subject and its companions from the effect of a maze spell in a single round. This divination is keyed to the recipient, not its companions, and its effect does not predict or allow for the actions of creatures (including guardians).
