Call Outsider

5th level Teleportation/Summoning

Classes: Oracle, Sorcerer, Wizard

Domains: Generic, Planes, Travel

Components: V, S

Casting Time: 10 min, ritual

Range: 60 ft

Target: One extraplanar creature with 6 HD or less

Duration: Instantaneous

Saving Throw: CHA negates

Spell Resistance: No

Description: Casting this spell attempts a dangerous act: to lure a creature from another plane and call them into your presence. The kind of creature to be called must be known and stated. If you wish to call a specific individual, you must use that individual's proper name in casting the spell. The target creature is allowed a CHA saving throw. If the saving throw succeeds, the creature resists the spell. If the saving throw fails, the creature immediately appears at a location you designate in range (spell resistance does not keep it from being called).

The extraplanar creature is not under your control and is free to act as it wishes, and most aren't particularly happy to be brought down to the prime material plane by some mortal. As such, most casters who seek to call extraplanars employ the use of magic circle, protection, dimensional anchor, or other protective spells to keep the creature in check long enough to bargain for it aid.

Unlike summoned creatures, called creatures are actually transported to the prime material plane indefinitely. They must be returned through the use of dismissal, plane shift, or other forms of extradimensional travel.
